1. List down your goals
Before you start anything – grab a notebook & pen. Now, start listing down your goals.
We’re pretty sure you’ve heard the whole ‘if you want to achieve a goal, you should write it down’. It may sound a little cliché, but it actually works!
While it may seem like a little bit of extra work to write things down, it is one way to help you recall really important information. And your goals are certainly something worth noting down!
When setting your goals, be sure to set realistic & manageable goals.
Maybe you’ve listed down a major goal such as running a marathon by the end of the year. Which is great! But it’s easy to feel overwhelmed & defeated when a goal is so broad. So instead, break it up to smaller & more manageable goals. For example, start by setting a number of times you’d like to run for the week, and build it up from there!
Listing down your goals also helps to keep track of your progress. When you start ticking off achievements from your list & see how much progress you’ve made, you feel encouraged to keep going!
2. Make time & space
Many of us lose motivation when we don’t believe that we have the time to work on our goals. Especially when working from home, it’s very difficult to set a cut off time of when you can finally stop working and start doing things you actually would like to do.
Dedicate a set time for your workouts and make it a point to protect that time!
Use a calendar or set a daily reminder if need be. And remember to hold yourself accountable for it.
Be sure to also dedicate a space for your workouts. Find a space to workout that is away from distractions, and more importantly one that won’t interrupt you when you’re in the zone.
Once you’ve found the perfect spot, clear your space of clutter! As an added touch, include candles, essential oil diffuser or setting up speakers to play your favourite tunes during your workout. Do whatever you need to do to make that spot your happy place!
3. Reset that mindset
It’s always said that the hardest part of working out is showing up.
You know exercise is good for you. You want to start working out. But then life happens, and you just can’t seem to get that workout in.
It’s always important to start off doing activities that you actually enjoy.
If running or HIIT just doesn’t cut it for you, don’t force yourself to do it! Instead, find a type of exercise that you enjoy the most and start off with that! And if you don’t know what that is just yet, now is the perfect time to find out!
It’s also important to not think about how tough the workout is going to be. Instead, focus on the endorphin rush and how great you will feel after. If you need an added distraction to keep your mind off the burn, create a playlist of your favourite tunes to keep you moving!
4. Find your support system
Just because we’re in lockdown and can’t physically be with our friends or family, it doesn’t mean that we can’t still be social!
If you’re not the type of person who enjoys working out on your own, having friends or family join us can help give you a boost.
